East San Joaquin Water Quality Framework

The East San Joaquin Water Quality Framework, which includes the Modesto , Turlock , Oakdale, Merced and South San Joaquin Irrigation Districts, as well as the cities in the area and other stakeholders, has launched its Web site at www.sjwatershed.org.

The new site provides information on the San Joaquin River and its watershed; steps that residents, businesses and growers can take to help protect water quality in the river; and information about and for the Framework. In addition, there are links to dozens of sites that provide more detail on topics such as storm water best management practices for farming, business and industry; resources for teachers; water quality coalition contacts; and household hazardous waste collection days throughout the Framework areas.

The goals of the Framework are to support compliance with the Ag Waiver; collect and analyze surface water quality data in the area; work to begin to differentiate among sources of water pollution; and to study the effectiveness of various management practices and controls in the area.

The Framework is currently funded with a grant from the State Water Resources Control Board’s Consolidated Grants Program. The ongoing maintenance of the site will be provided by the Modesto Irrigation District. For additional information, contact Elizabeth Emmett at (707) 258-2604 or e.emmett@circlepoint.com.
